Elise Greenup Jourdan

Elise Jourdan graduated from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee.

Elise first self-published her own family history book in 1989, a book titled Greenup Witten Cecil about the families originating in Maryland. Her project was completed at the request of several related researchers who had researched 3 of her family lines and who wanted to get their material sorted out and published. Elise added her work and published the book. After its publication, she decided to more in-depth research and while talking to Ed Wright one day she happened to mention that she was looking for a project to fill her spare time. He suggested she start with some Prince George’s County, Maryland land records (published by his first company Family Line Publications) and thus began a pleasant and interesting relationship over the past 17 years.

Elise has since revised her original family history in a recent book entitled The Greenup Family, which was the winner of the 2003 Sumner A. Parker Prize awarded annually by the Maryland Historical Society for the best genealogical publication concerning a Maryland family.

Elise has published numerous books in addition to her own family history, including her popular ten volume series Early Families of Southern Maryland; Settlers of Colonial Calvert County; Settlers of Colonial St. Mary's County; Land Records of Prince George's County, Maryland; Tazewelll County, Virginia Census Records and her latest endeavor, Early Settlers of Tidewater, Virginia.
